We gathered together at Ascension Lutheran Church at the end of February for our Annual District Gathering. We had workshops geared towards ministry in our various contexts, a keynote delivered by Dr. Chuck Hunt from Fuller Youth Institute, and times of sharing that Saturday in stories, a Q&A, and a Communion service.
The SoCal District is a voluntary association of Lutheran congregations that hold to the centrality of the Scriptures and the Confessions as the basis for ministry and life together. It is not a hierarchy or bureaucracy, but a congenial organization that seeks to empower the local congregation to flourish in the place that it has been established. It is organized around the need to assist Lutheran churches in the unique environment of Southern California to be that voice of Lutheranism that brings grace and mercy in the name of Christ to all they meet.
